AI Works Best When Human Judgement Leads It

I started Discover Your Edge because I kept watching good business owners skip the one step that actually makes AI work: understanding their own problem before reaching for a tool. That is the gap I close, one business at a time.

Her Story

Twenty Years Before the First LLM

I have been in business for a long time, long enough to have watched multiple technology waves sweep through industry with the same promise: this is the one that changes everything.

I spent most of my corporate career in B2B sales and sales management across the food and packaging industries, so I have a pretty good understanding of how things work and how things get made. Alongside that I completed an MBA part time, studying while travelling for work roughly one week in four. Over the years there have been highs and lows that led to course correction and reinvention, more than once.

So when AI, in the form of large language models, arrived a few years ago, I did not see it as a reason to panic. I paid attention and went deep, in the way that takes months rather than hours, and what I saw was a pattern I recognised, dressed up in new technology and new language.

Discover Your Edge started in early 2022. I built it on the belief that the businesses who get AI right are not the ones who move fastest. They are the ones who diagnose properly before they build anything.

Without the Right Footwear, You Might As Well Not Even Bother

At 56, I saw a trekking deal to Everest Base Camp pop up more than once. I had never done a full day hike in my life. I booked it anyway and gave myself twelve months to train.

I was the oldest in my group: three fit young guys from Melbourne, a couple in their thirties from South Africa, and me, consistently last into the tea house each night.

In Kathmandu, before we set off, a woman in a gear shop helped me choose the right boots. She said something I have never forgotten: without the right footwear, you might as well not even bother. I have used that line as a business metaphor ever since. You can have the grit to start, but grit alone is not enough. You also need the right foundation underneath it.

I made it to Base Camp. Not because I was the fittest or the most prepared, but because I chose to do it and I was not going to let myself down.

That same pattern shows up in how I now help businesses approach AI. The willingness to take the first step matters, but so does the groundwork underneath it. Here is something that will no doubt push you outside your comfort zone. Take the first step properly, and you win.

That is what you are getting when you work with me: someone who has actually done the uncomfortable thing herself, not just read about it.

I speak on AI adoption and human judgement in business, available on request. Get in touch to discuss your event.

I am also writing all of this down properly. The Human Edge, publishing in 2026.
